Mechanism of action
Acetaminophen is believed to work primarily through inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the brain and spinal cord, reducing prostaglandin production and thereby lowering the pain threshold and resetting the hypothalamic thermoregulatory set point. Unlike NSAIDs, it has minimal peripheral anti-inflammatory effects and does not significantly inhibit COX in peripheral tissues.
