Mechanism of action

Chlorhexidine gluconate works by binding to and disrupting the integrity of bacterial cell membranes, leading to leakage of cellular contents and cell death. It also denatures bacterial proteins and interferes with metabolic processes. At low concentrations (0.02%), it exhibits bacteriostatic properties, while higher concentrations are bactericidal against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and some viruses.
