Therapeutic compositions useful as anticonvulsants, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants and depressants for the heat-regulating centres comprise a compound of the formula <FORM:0980279/A5-A6/1> in which Y represents an -OM group, wherein M stands for a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline-earth metal atom, a magnesium or zinc atom, or an -OR group in which R represents a linear or branched chain lower alkyl radical (1-9 carbon atoms) or a -NHZ group in which Z represents a hydrogen atom or the amide radical -CONH2, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. The compositions may be adapted for oral, rectal or parenteral use, and may be in the form of capsules, tablets, syrups or suspensions and suppositories. The compositions may also be used as diuretic agents and as potentiators for drugs having parallel therapeutic activity.
