The invention relates to a new anti-microbial compound, designated FR109615, having the characteristics and physico-chemical properties described herein. The compound shows anti-microbial activity against pathogenic microorganisms, especially pathogenic fungi, and is useful for the treatment of various infectious diseases in both human beings and animals. There is provided a process for preparing the FR109615 compound which comprises culturing a FR109615 producing strain belonging to the genus Steptomyces in a nutrient medium. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising FR109615 as an active ingredient are also described.
