Compounds of formula (I)[wherein R<sup>1</sup> represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R<sup>2</sup> represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a group of formula (II)in which R' is as defined above] and pharmaceutical compositions thereof may be administered prophylactically to humans or warm-blooded animals to combat the occurrence of osteitis or osteomyelitis, especially in patients suffering from bone injuries of traumatic origin.
