Ointments, creams and pastes for application to the skin contain as an active antimycobacterial ingredient a compound of the formula R-CO8Et, wherein R stands for an ethylthio radical or a phenyl radical which may optionally be substituted by an ethylthiocarbonyl radical. Specified compounds are diethyl dithiolcarbonate, ethyl thiolbenzoate, diethyl dithiolphthalate, diethyl dithiolterephthalate and preferably diethyl dithiolisophthalate. An additional ingredient may be isonicotinic acid hydrazide. Many bases and carriers which may incorporate emulsifying agents and thickeners are specified. Specifications 746,051 and 758,464 are referred to.
