USPTO Abstract

775,071. Batteries. CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE CO., Ltd. Aug. 2, 1955 [Aug. 3, 1954], No. 22459/54. Class 53. In a water-activated primary battery having a positive electrode a pre. dominantly of cuprous chloride and negative electrodes b of magnesium or magnesium alloy, a soluble chloride salt (e.g. potassium .chloride) is included in the battery in the form of pellets c, d (Fig. 1) or incorporated in one or more absorbent separators j (Fig. 4) between the positive and negative electrodes. In the Fig. 1 form, the activating water has access through holes e in the outer container h, and the Fig. 4 form has a non- impregnated absorbent layer i adjacent each face of the positive electrode and may be used without an outer container as shown. Zinc strips f, k, to which take-off connections are attached, are fitted to the negative electrodes as described in Specification 775,072.
