USPTO Abstract

Steroid hormones are solubilized by a pyridine derivative of formula <FORM:0761618/VI/1> where R is an alkoxy, amino or substituted amino radical. Specified derivatives include methyl nicotinate, ethyl nicotinate, methyl isonicotinate, nicotinamide, N, N-diethyl nicotinamide, isonicotnic acid hydrazide and pyrizinamide. Adrenal hormones (cortisone, hydrocortisone, corticosterone, desoxycorticosterone and dehydrocorticosterone), estrogenic hormones (a -estradiol), corpus luteum hormone (progesterone) and androgenic hormones (testosterone), alone or mixed, may be solubilized. The composition gives a solution on addition of water or a medicinally acceptable oil. Benzyl alcohol may also be present. The solutions formed may be used for oral, topical, intramuscular, intravenous, opthalmic, nasal or irrigational administration. An example describes the preparation of an aqueous solution of hydrocortisone alcohol and nicotinamide.
