USPTO Abstract

A hair preparation comprises an oestrogenic hormone or hormones in admixture with one or more of the amino acids cystine, methionine, lysine, tyrosine, phenylalanine and glycine. The amino acids comprise 0.1 to 10 per cent. of the preparation. The preferred preparation is aqueous, contains sodium chloride or sodium bicarbonate and is buffered at pH8 to 8.5. The preparation may be in the form of solution, suspension or emulsion, which may be perfumed and coloured and contain a preservative. Optional ingredients specified are (a) cosmetic diluents such as diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, polyethylene glycol (300), benzyl alcohol, propylene glycol, terpineol, industrial methylated spirits, vegetable oils, isopropyl myristate and (b) the emulsifying and dispersing agents mixed palm kernel esters of polyethylene glycol 400, triethanolamine lauryl sulphate and emulsifying wax. The hormone may be natural or synthetic e.g. oestradiol benzoate.
