USPTO Abstract

The invention relates to an oral liquid suspension of methocarbamol (25-200 mg/mL) with one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, and at least one vehicle and a flavoring agent. The preferred composition comprises methocarbamol (25-200 mg/mL) with magnesium aluminium silicate (1-10 mg/mL) as a suspending agent; sodium carboxymethylcellulose (1-10 mg/mL) as a viscosity modifying agent, a pH modifying agent(s), glycerol (100-400 mg/mL) as a humectant, and pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, including antimicrobial agent, a sweetening agent, a flavouring agent, and at least one vehicle (preferably water). The formulation has a pH of 3-6. The invention also provides a method for the preparation of said oral liquid formulation of methocarbamol, and use of said oral liquid formulation for the treatment of acute musculoskeletal pain. The preparation involves dispersing the suspending and viscosity agents in water, adding pH modifiers, sweeteners, humectants, antimicrobial agents, and flavourings, then incorporating methocarbamol. The dispersion is homogenized, pH-adjusted, and the volume completed with water. The suspension is then filled, sealed, and packaged in appropriate containers.
