USPTO Abstract
A volume and resistance compensator, VRC (1), for use in an inhaler testing process is provided. The VRC comprises a variable volume chamber (2) with an inlet (4) and an outlet (6), at least one of which is adjustable to vary the resistance to gas flow through the chamber. Preferably, resistance is adjusted using a choke plate with a central hole (32, 34, Fig 3) located in a recess (32, Fig 2a) in the inlet or outlet. The volume of the VRC is varied using a piston mounted on a shaft (8) and held in place by a two part clamp (14, 16) . In use, the VRC is connected between a collector, connected to an inhaler, and a vacuum pump (Fig 6) and allows flow characteristics to remain consistent even when using different types or designs of collector with different volumes and/or flow resistances.
