USPTO Abstract

A stable aqueous hydroxycarbamide solution comprising: hydroxycarbamide; a pH adjuster being one of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium carbonate, or a mixture of one or more of these substances; wherein: the solution is controlled to have a pH of between 6.1 and 7.1 is provided. The pH adjuster is preferably sodium hydroxide. Said stable aqueous hydroxycarbamide solution may further contain a preservative, a viscosity modifying agent, a sweetener and a flavouring agent. The preservative is selected from a base of methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl hydroxybenzoate. The sweetener may be sucralose, aspartame or acesulfame K and the viscosity modifying agent may be xanthan gum. Said stable aqueous hydroxycarbamide solution for use in the treatment of sickle cell disease is provided.
