USPTO Abstract

A personal protection device 100 to be worn, attached or carried by the user, comprising a manually activated actuating switch member 103, with one or more trigger contacts 107, to activate an audible alarm housed within an acoustic chamber, where the acoustic chamber acts to amplify the alarm through a sound output aperture 105; and the acoustic chamber is housed within the actuating member. The housing comprises a top section 101 and a bottom section 102 configured to be attached to each other. The actuating member is housed within the top section of the housing in a hinged configuration in order for the alarm to be activated when the actuating member is pressed. The alarm circuit (fig 12) comprises a microcontroller, alarm switches, NPN transistor, auto-transformer, spring contacts, piezo-electric transducer, status LEDs, USB connector for recharging the battery, DC-DC Converter, accelerometer and Bluetooth (RTM) antenna. An on/off switch 104 activates and deactivates the alarm circuit. The alarm may also be able to be activated and deactivated remotely from a mobile application, have wireless and GPS communication capabilities, and be worn using a wristband 117 or body clamp configuration.
