(I) Oxime and hydrazone derivatives of formula (I) of fluoroquinolone active compounds is provided wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of H, NR7R8, C1-C4alkyl, C1-C4alkoxy and C1-C4haloalkyl where R7 and R8 are each independently H, C1-C4alkyl and Ac; X is C or N; Y is O or NR13 where R13 is selected from H, C1-C4alkyl or Ac; P is N or CR10 and Q is N or CR9 where R9 and R10 are substitutents; R2 is selected from aryl or heteroaryl; R3 and R4 are independently selected from C4-C20alkyl, aryl and heteroaryl; R5 is selected from C1-C4alkyl, C1-C4haloalkyl, C3-C5cycloalkyl, C3-C5halocycloalkyl or an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or pyridyl; R6 is selected from H, C1-C4alkyl or C1-C4haloalkyl or alternatively R5 and R6 together with the atoms to which they are attached to form an optionally substituted 4- to 6-membered ring which optionally contains an O or S atom; R11 is selected from N-heterocycloalkyl group or a C3-C8cycloalkyl group; R12 is absent or selected from the group consisting of H, OR16 or halo where R16 is selected from C1-C4alkyl or C1-C4haloalkyl or alternatively R12 and R5 together with the atoms to which they are attached form an optionally substituted 6-membered ring which optionally contains an O or S atom. The compounds of formula (I) are useful in the treatment of a bacterial infections which is caused by a resistant strain of gram positive and/or gram negative bacteria.
