USPTO Abstract
An illumination apparatus comprises a plurality of LEDs 42 aligned to an array of directional optical elements 41 which may be catadioptric, reflective or refractive. Wherein the LEDs may be vertical thin film (VTF) LED s which are substantially at the input aperture of respective optical elements. An electrode array 56 is formed on the array of optical elements to provide at least a first electrical connection to the array of LED elements. A wavelength conversion device (Figure 6, 76) may also be present. There may be an electronic control apparatus and drive circuit comprising a current source 320, 322 for the array of LED s (see Figure 26).
