USPTO Abstract

An injection device comprises a body (10); a syringe (12) with a needle (50); one or more walls defining an elongate passage (16) relative to which said syringe (12) moves between a rearward, retracted, position in which the needle (50) is shrouded by said passage and a forward, extended position in which the needle (50) projects from the passage, wherein said passage includes a plurality of transverse projections (26, 28, 34) projecting inwardly from the wall of the passage reducing the cross-section of the passage, and some of the projections include resiliently deflectable portions (28) inclined inwardly towards the forward end of the passage. The injection device may include a cap (38) which is withdrawn from the device before use to remove a boot (52) from the needle (50). The cap (52) has fingers (46) which grip the boot and which pass down the passage (16). The fingers (46) on the cap (38) may alternate with the projections (26) in an angular position about the longitudinal axis of the passage. The projections (26, 28, 34) allow the boot to be withdrawn forwardly through the passage but prevent a finger being poked into the passage.
