A dispensing apparatus comprising a housing 3 for receiving a dispensing container, an actuation means 11, such as a solenoid, for supplying an electrical actuation signal and a valve actuator 7a, for receiving the electrical actuation signal and providing actuation of the dispensing apparatus. The dispensing apparatus comprises dose counter means (not shown) operable in response to the electrical actuation signal to index the dose counter. The apparatus may provide the actuation signal directly to the dose counter. The apparatus is preferably a metered dose inhaler.
