USPTO Abstract
A method for remotely actuating a downhole tool 500 comprises providing the tool with a sensor 555. A condition downhole is then generated, which is detected. The tool is then actuated based on the condition. The downhole conditions may be generated at the surface. The generated condition may consist of pressure, temperature, vibration or the delivery of a tripping device such as a drop ball or dart. The sensor may be an acoustic receiver, which may be used to detect a tripping device. Alternatively, the condition may be the delivery of a radio frequency tag 580 to the tool and the sensor may be an RF tag reader. The tool may be a valve or a centralizer (320, fig 3).
