USPTO Abstract

A nasal delivery device for and a method of delivering substance to a nasal airway of a subject, the delivery device comprising a nosepiece 17 for fitting to a nostril of the subject, the nosepiece including a nozzle 25 through which the substance is in use delivered to the nasal airway, and at least one cuff member 27 which, when fitted in a nasal cavity of a subject is such as to engage an inner wall of the nasal cavity, and a delivery unit for delivering substance through the nozzle which may include a dosing unit for supplying a jet or a powder or liquid aerosol. The cuff may comprise one or more inflatable members which provide a fluid tight seal with an inner wall of the nasal cavity or one or more resilient lobed members (47 fig 14) which at least partially obstruct the nasal cavity and may direct at least a distal end of the nozzle towards a site in the nasal airway, such as the inferior, middle or superior meatus, inferior, middle or superior nasal concha, olfactory region, sinus ostia or infundibulum, epipharnyx, adenoids or tubal ostia. The device may be provided with a mouthpiece 19 and may deliver substance in response to exhalation of the subject.
