USPTO Abstract
A delivery device has an outlet member 19 through which substance, as an aerosol or vapour is delivered in an entraining gas flow, and a substance supply unit 15. The substance supply unit 15 comprises a flow channel 21 fluidly connected to the outlet member 19 and a substance supporting element 27 for supporting substance, at least a surface of which is disposed in the flow channel 21. The substance is entrained by the gas flow flowing over or through the substance supporting element 27. The device may also have a mouthpiece 17 which is fluidly connected to the flow channel 21, whereby exhalation into the mouthpiece 17 generates an entraining gas flow. The substance supporting element 27 may comprise a porous capillary element loadable with substance and the flow channel 21 may comprise an upstream flow section and a downstream flow section with a flow resistor 31 fluidly connecting the upstream and downstream channels. The outlet may comprise a nosepiece 19 for fitting into a nostril. Also disclosed is a delivery device comprising an outlet member, a substance supply unit wherein the substance supply unit comprises a flow channel which is fluidly connected to the outlet member and defines a receiving chamber; a cartridge containing substance to be entrained which is openable to release a contained substance; a method of delivering substance by providing a substance supporting element in a flow channel, delivering an entraining gas flow through the flow channel to entrain substance from the substance supporting element.
