Compounds of general formula wherein E is -CHO or -B(OH) 2 , R<SP>9</SP> is a group connected via -(O)-CO- or -SO 2 -, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are H or lower alkyl (or R<SP>3</SP> is linked to R<SP>2</SP>) and the other R groups are (substituted) hydrocarbyl, are viral proteinase inhibitors useful as antiviral agents for treatment or prophylaxis of infections caused by Hepatitis C or G, or human GB, viruses.
