The apparatus, which calculates the dosage of liquid or powder medicament administered by inhalation, comprises a chamber 1 for holding medicament and gas prior to inhalation, an inlet 2 through which medicament passes into the chamber (from an MDI 3) a sensor 4 for sensing introduction of the medicament, means for detecting the rate of flow of gas inhaled by a patient from the chamber and means operably connected to the sensor and to the detector for calculating the amount of medicament received. The calculation is made by assessing the medicament concentration in chamber 1 during reduction thereof by deposition and by determining the volume of gas received by inhalation and the time elapsed from sensed introduction of the medicament to its inhalation. <IMAGE>
