USPTO Abstract
1485163 Pocket inhalers ISF SpA 17 Oct 1974 [18 March 1974] 44994/74 Heading AST A device for inhaling medicinal powders provided in a capsule comprises a body portion 21 with a chamber 10 for receiving a capsule, and inhaling passage in a portion 22 leading from the chamber, an elongate recess 9 in the bottom wall of the chamber wherein a capsule rests when the inhaler is not in use, and air intake passages (12, 12') leading from the chamber positioned tangentially so that air drawn in through them when inhaling through the inhaling passage draws the capsule from the recess and imparts a rotary and shaking motion to it; piercing devices are provided to puncture the capsule in the chamber. As shown these are movable push buttons 26 each carrying a set of elongate spikes positioned to act on the capsule when it is lying in the recess 9. The inhaling passage may be a tubular portion 22 joined to the body portion 21 by a pivot (3) to allow the insertion of a capsule, and may be held in the closed position by a latch (4, 5, 6). A grating (1) prevents the capsule from entering the inhaling passage.
