USPTO Abstract
1483651 Gas purification; nitrogen oxides MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 14 Oct 1974 [19 Oct 1973 18 Dec 1973 28 Dec 1973] 44434/74 Heading C1A A composition for removing nitrogen oxides, in particular NO, from gases comprises a mixture of an oxidizing agent with calcium sulphate and/or hydroxide, the oxidizing agent being such that nitrogen gas saturated with water at 30 C. and containing 85 p.p.m. of NO when contacted with the composition at a space velocity of 17,000 hr.<SP>-1</SP> is purified of initially >80%, and after 2 hours, >50% of the NO. Oxidizing agents specified are NaClO 2 and KMNO 4 . When the former is used any Cl 2 generated may be removed by Na 2 CO 3 or activated charcoal.
