USPTO Abstract

1451299 Alkoxycarbonylphenyl ureas; their preparation and herbicidal compositions BAYER AG 19 March 1975 [20 March 1974 24 Sept 1974] 11424/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the general Formula I wherein X 1 or X 2 is and the other is a hydrogen or chlorine atom; R 1 is hydrogen, CH 3 O or a C 1-6 alkyl group and R 2 represents an alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl radical of at least three carbon atoms, the chain of which is optionally interrupted by one or more oxygen or sulphur atoms which may be prepared by reacting an isocyanate of Formula II with an amine of formula Nitrobenzenes of Formula VI wherein X 1 and X 2 are as defined above are prepared by reacting the corresponding 3-(or 4-) nitrobenzoylchloride with the corresponding alcohol R 2 OH, and are hydrogenated in the presence of Raney nickel to obtain the corresponding 3- and 4-aminobenzoic acid esters of Formula VII which are in turn reacted with phosgene to obtain the 3- and 4-isocyanatobenzoic acid esters of Formula II. Herbicidal compositions comprise a compound of Formula I together with a solid or liquified gaseous diluent or carrier or together with a liquid diluent or carrier containing a surface active agent.
