1430684 Prolonged release lozenge H LOWEY 22 June 1973 [26 June 1972] 29731/73 Heading A5B A shaped and compressed pharmaceutical composition comprises a pharmaceutically active ingredient incorporated in a carrier material which is hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose or a mixture of hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, the carrier material having been humidity- and heat-treated at a temperature between 110 and 120‹F at a humidity of 85 to 90% for a minimum of 24 hours and the carrier and pharmaceutically active ingredient having been compressed into shape at a pressure of from 7 to 13 kg/sq. inch, the composition having a longlasting slow disintegration rate to give a prolonged and regular release pattern. The active ingredient may be gastric mucin, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium trisilicate, nitroglycerin. amyl nitrite, ascorbic acid, chlorpheniramine maleate, benzocaine, phenolphthalein and dextrose, or mixtures thereof.
