1351762 Tobacco compositions; tobaccosmoke filters WILKINSON SWORD Ltd 26 Jan 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 40395/73 Divided out of 1351761 Heading A2C Agents capable of producing a cool sensation during smoking are added to tobacco or tobacco-smoke filters, the agents being N-substituted p-menthane carboxamides of the formula: where R' is hydrogen or an aliphatic radical containing up to 25 carbon atoms; R" is hydroxy, or an aliphatic radical containing up to 25 carbon atoms, with the proviso that when R8 is hydrogen R" may also be an aryl radical of up to 10 carbon atoms selected from substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenalkyl, and optionally substituted naphthyl; or R' and R", when taken together, represent a cyclic or heterocyclic group of up to 25 carbon atoms. Many suitable agents are listed, of which the N, N-dimethyl and the N-ethyl p-menthane-3-carboxamides are exemplified for use with cigarette tobacco and filter tips respectively.
