USPTO Abstract

1347950 Aerosol antiperspirants BRISTOLMYERS CO 7 March 1972 [8 March 1971] 10555/72 Heading C4X [Also in Division A5] Anhydrous aerosol antiperspirant compositions comprise a powdered aluminium antiperspirant mix distributed in a liquid vehicle comprising a non-volatile, organic, oily liquid having a boiling point under atmospheric pressure not lower than 120‹ C. and a specific gravity of 0À7 to 1À6, and an aerosol propellant, the powdered aluminium antiperspirant mix comprising aluminium chloride and a water soluble antiperspirant aluminium salt less acidic than aluminium chloride, e.g. aluminium chlorhydroxide, aluminium sulphate, aluminium chlorhydroxide-propylene glycol complex, complex of zinc phenol sulphonate and chlorhydrol, aluminium potassium sulphate and aluminium chlorhydroxide-polyethylene glycol mixture. The organic oily liquid may be a liquid hydrocarbon (e.g. mineral oil, Iso-Par); a fatty acid ester (e.g. isopropyl myristate, isopropyl palmitate): a diester of a dicarboxylic acid (e.g. diisopropyl adipate); a polyoxyalkylene glycol ester (e.g. polypropylene glycol 2000 monooleate): a propylene glycol diester of a short chain fatty acid (C 8-10 ) (e.g. Neobeer); a polyoxyethylene ether (e.g. polyoxyethylene (4) lauryl ether, polyoxyethylene (2) oleyl ether, polyoxyethylene (10) oleyl ether); a polyoxypropylene cetyl ether (e.g. Procetyl); a fatty alcohol (e.g. oleyl, hexadecyl, lauryl alcohols); a propoxylated monohydric alcohol. M.W. 880- 930, and/or a silicone oil (e.g. dimethyl polysiloxane). The propellant may be trichloromonofluoromethane, dichlorodifluoromethane, dichlorotetrafluoroethane, trichlorotrifluoroethane, propane, butane, pentane and/or isobutane. The compositions may also contain a suspending agent such as a fumed silica, dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium bentonite, magnesium aluminium silicate, polyethylene powder, aluminium stearate or aluminium octoate, an antibacterial or antifungal agent such as hexachlorophene, quaternary nitrogen compounds, benzoic acid, resorcinol monoacetate, chlorobutanol, Vancide and zinc omadine; a fragrance, a slip agent such as talc or zinc stearate; a surfactant such as sorbitan monooleate, a pigment such as titanium dioxide; a fabric damage reducing agent such as urea or glycine; and/or an anticorrosion agent such as ethoxylated dinonyl phenyl mono and diester of phosphoric acid; propoxylated cetyl mono and diesters of phosphoric acid and epoxidized butyl esters of linseed oil fatty acids. The powdered aluminium antiperspirant mix may be prepared by forming an aqueous solution containing aluminium chloride and a water soluble antiperspirant aluminium salt less acidic than aluminium chloride, drying the solution to obtain a dry product and optionally pulverizing the dry product to produce a powder suitable for suspension in an aerosol container.
