Stropping-apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for stropping or honing safety-razor blades, of the type in which a reciprocating motion is given to the strop whilst the blade is held in a pivoted holder automatically swung through an angle less than 180 degrees at the end of each movement of the strop. The invention is characterized by the feature that the cams 19, 20 employed to reverse the blade are formed integrally with a metal strip 21 which guides the blade-holder. The strop or hone 1, Fig. 2, is carried in a holder 2 mounted on a sliding base 3, which is reciprocated in grooves in a casing 5 by means of a handle 6. The blade is carried in a holder 11 pivotally mounted between the side walls of the casing 5 and consisting of two hinged plates held together by a catch 13. At one end of the holder is a cross-piece 15 connected to a spring 16 anchored at 17, which presses the blade against the strop, whilst at the other end are laterally extending arms or lugs 14, 18 adapted to engage the camshaped metal strip 21, Fig. 3, secured to the sliding-base 3. The normal position of the bladeholder is vertical. As the sliding part 3 is drawn outwards, the lug 18 engages with the camshaped end 19 of the guide-strip 21 and raises the blade edge clear of the edge of the strop. The lug then travels along the straight portion 21 of the guide strop, during which time the blade is in contact with the strop. At the end of the stroke, the blade is raised clear of the strop edge by means of the similar cam 20. On the reverse stroke, the lug 14 is swung to the other side of the vertical position by contact with the arm 20, so that the other side of the same edge is applied to the strop after first being raised clear of the strop-edge. To strop the opposite edge of the blade, it is removed and reversed in the holder 11. A hinged lid 23 encloses the device when not in use.
