1,264,677. Herbicides containing nitrophenyl ethers and substituted ureas. MINOC S.a.r.L. 8 May, 1969 [16 May, 1968], No. 23525/69. Heading A5E. Herbicidal compositions contain (A) at least one of the ethers:- 3, 5-dimethyl-4'-nitrodiphenyl ether, 3 - methyl - 4' - nitrodiphenyl ether, 2, 4 - dichloro - 6 - fluoro - 4' - nitrodiphenyl ether, 2, 4, 6 - trichloro - 4' - nitro - diphenyl ether, 2, 4 - dichloro - 4 - nitrodiphenyl ether and 4 - trifluoromethyl - 2, 4' - dinitrodiphenyl ether and (B) at least one herbicidal substituted urea having the general formula where A is a secondary amino radical selected from methyl-propylamino, methylbutylamino and diethylamino radicals, X and Z are hydrogen or halogen, and Y is hydrogen, halogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy, at least one and at most two of X, Y and Z being halogen, e.g. neburon; linuron, diuron, metoxuron, monolinuron, methabenzthiazuron or buturon. The weight ratio of (A) to (B) is preferably from 10:90 to 90:10. The growth of weeds is inhibited in a locus yielding a cereal crop by the application (pre-emergence with respect to both weeds and crop, e.g. winter wheat) of the herbicidal compositions. The compositions may be in the form of dusts, granules, emulsions, emulsifiable concentrates or wettable powders.
