USPTO Abstract
1,245,467. Antibiotic compositions. CHEMICAL & PHARMACEUTICAL PATENT HOLDING Ltd. 6 Sept., 1968, No. 42603/68. Heading A5B. A sustained-release antibiotic composition is prepared by forming a wet or granulation of the antibiotic, arsenic-free shellac and polyvinylpyrrolidone (P.V.P.), drying the granules and coating them with a protective film, preferably of shellac and P.V.P., such as to permit only partial disintegration of the granules in the stomach. Specified antibiotics are the tetracyclines, streptomycin, endomycin, oleandomycin, erythromycin, kanamyciri and their salts. Talc and for a low bulk density silicate may be included in the granules as a filler and a relatively low solubility organic acid, e.g. fumaric adipic, succinic or sorbic acid preferably is also present.
