USPTO Abstract
124,010. Dior, R. E. Jan. 10, 1919. Phenol-aldehyde condensation products.-In the production of resinous condensation products from phenols and aldehydes, ammonium salts of volatile organic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, buty ric, valeric, &c.). ammonium salts of organic acids which decompose to phenol or cresols, e.g. salicylic acid, or ammonium bicarbonate, are used as condensing-agents. The process is carried out by heating the reagents until the condensation product has formed, removing the upper aqueous layer from the product, allowing the residue to stand and cooling to separate more water, and finally heating to drive off all water. Lime, baryta, or magnesia may be added in the last stage to assist in removing the condensing. agent. Fatty acids or their salts, resins, gums, waxes, rubber, &c., may be incorporated in the product.
