Heading C2C. 5-Hydroxysebacic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof is prepared by hydrolysing 6- hydroxy-1,10 decanedioic acid-1,61 actone with an aqueous medium containing an alkali metal hydroxide. The hydrolysis is preferably carried out by heating the reaction mixture for up to 3 hours under reflux conditions.
