1,196,594. Production of sebacic acid. GEIGY (U.K.) Ltd. 23 Nov., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 52602/66. Heading C2C. Sebacic acid is prepared by hydrogenating 5-ketosebacic acid or 5-hydroxysebacic acid, or an alkali metal salt of either, with molecular hydrogen at a temperature above 200‹ C., in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst of palladium or platinum. The hydrogenation may be effected in aqueous solution at a superatmospheric pressure for a period of from 4 to 8 hours.
