USPTO Abstract

An aerosol spray composition for use in feminine hygiene comprises at least one organic aerosol propellant, at least one organic purely synthetic bactericide and at least 0.1% by weight of an emollient substance or mixture of emollient substances being fats or oils or oily or fatty non-ionic emulsifying agents, the weight ratio of the emollient to the bactericide being at least 2:1, said composition being substantially non-irritant when sprayed on to the human skin and mucous membane and containing less than 10% of undissolved material. The bactericide may be 2,4-dichloro-3,5-xylenol, 3,4,6-trichlorophenol, 4 - chloro - 3,5 - xylenol, bis - p-chlorophenyl-diguanidohexane or its diacetate or digluconate, 2,21-methylene-bis-(2,4,6-trichlorophenol), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, N - (5 - nitro - 2 - furfurylidene) - 1 - amino - hydantoin, N - (5 - nitro - 2 - furfurylidene - 3 - amino - 2 - oxazolidone, N - hydroxymethyl-N1 methyl-thiourea or bactericidal ureaformaldehyde condensates, or mixtures of two or more thereof. Many emollients are also specified. The propellant may be a fluorinated or chloro-fluorinated hydrocarbon. A perfume may be added.ALSO:An aerospray composition for use in feminine hygiene comprises at least one organic aerosol propellant, at least one organic purely synthetic bactericide and at least 0.1% by weight of an emolient substance or mixture of emollient substances being fats or oils or oily or fatty non-ionic emulsifying agents, the weight ratio of the emollient to the bactericide being at least 2 : 1, said composition being substantially non-irritant when sprayed on to the human skin and mucous membrane and containing less than 10% of undissolved material.
