USPTO Abstract
An applicator device for training medical practitioners is provided. The applicator device is configured for practicing a surgical procedure for delivering a rod-like implant under the skin of a human or animal. The applicator device includes an actuator that retracts a needle to deploy an artificial implant loaded inside a lumen of the needle. The needle is locked in a retracted position to prevent injury from an accidental forward deployment of the needle. A reset mechanism releases the needle to allow the applicator device to be reset and reused for repeated training. The reset mechanism is unlocked when a needle cap is attached to prevent injury. A kit includes the applicator device and simulated tissue structures for practicing the procedure on the simulated tissue structures with the applicator device.
