The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising at least one active compound having the property of polarization or differentiation of monocytes, and repolarization of macrophages into a phenotype with anti-tumor properties, the active compound being selected from the group consisting of apigenin derivative, indol-3-carbinol derivative, lupeol derivative, piperlongumin derivative, quercetin derivative, curcumin derivative and/or resveratrol derivative, or a mixture thereof, and a suitable pharmaceutical carrier. The pharmaceutical compositions are suitable for the treatment or prevention of different types of cancer. The invention furthermore relates to an in-vitro method for polarization or differentiation of monocytes or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) into macrophages with a M1-like phenotype with anti-tumor properties. The invention further relates to a method of preparation of repolarized macrophages with M1-like phenotype with anti-tumor properties.
