The present invention is directed to an ophthalmic composition comprising semifluorinated compounds characterized by the general formula CF 3 -[CF 2 ] n -CH[CH 3 ]-[CH 2 ) m -CH 3 wherein n is an integer selected from 3 to 5 and m is an integer selected from 1 to 5. The invention further provides the use of the composition as medicament for topical administration to the eye, as well as a kit comprising the composition and a container comprising a dispensing means such as a dropper.
