A method for determining the age range of a skin sample comprising: a) providing a skin sample comprising nucleic acids expressed by genes in a classifier comprising one or more young genes and one or more old genes; b) determining expression levels of the nucleic acids expressed from at least one young gene and at least one old gene in the classifier by assaying the nucleic acids in the skin sample; and c) characterizing the age range of the skin sample based on the expression levels.
