A device (20) for delivering a drug includes a housing (24); at least one nozzle (34) at a portion of the housing; a source of drug (40) in the housing; and an energy source (64) for providing a pressure of up to about 2,000 psi for driving the drug (40) through the at least one nozzle (34) and out of the housing (24). The drug is delivered to tissue under microjet propulsion. The device is particularly useful for drug delivery applications such as transdermal and ocular by way of example.
