Press-coated tablets comprising a care and a coating. The core contains an active substance and a colouring agent such that when the tablet is exposed to penetrating radiation the core is contrasted with the coating and is visible through the coating. The invention also relates to the use' of a colouring agent or excipient in such tablets to determine whether the core is centrally located within the core, to check the integrity of the core, and to ensure that there is no contaminating core material on or near the surface the coating.
