A compact syringe device for subcutaneous injection of pellets of medicament 10 through a hollow needle 2. The syringe comprises a syringe barrel 1, a hollow needle 2 and a plunger 3 comprising a plurality of telescopically arranged segments 31, 35. The segments 31, 35 are adapted to lock in their telescopically extended configuration to provide a rigid plunger 3. The invention further provides a clamp 5 to hold the medicament pellets 10 within the syringe barrel 1 and prevent them from falling out of the syringe through the hollow needle 2.
