It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a process for producing a pharmaceutical solid dispersion using a twin-screw compounding extruder, the pharmaceutical solid dispersion including hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as a carrier which is superior in elution property of pharmaceutical ingredients and in stability and the pharmaceutical solid dispersion being satisfactory for subsequent pharmaceutical preparations. The present invention is a process for producing a pharmaceutical solid dispersion including hydroxypropyl methylcellulose as a carrier with the use of a twin-screw compounding extruder, characterized in that a sugar alcohol is added as one of processing materials and kneading and extruding processes are performed for the processing materials with the use of the twin-screw compounding extruder. <IMAGE>
