A dosage form comprising a plurality of particles having interior pores and a liquid, active agent formulation in the pores, the particles being compactable and adapted to retain substantially all of the liquid active agent formulation within the pores during the compacting process, is described. The dosage forms may be in the forms of unitary oral forms for immediate release of active agent, prolonged delivery forms, or controlled delivery forms. All forms involve certain absorbent materials having prescribed characteristics, particularly spray dried calcium hydrogen phosphate and magnesium aluminometasilicate.
