An aqueous suspension of solid lipoid nanoparticles, comprising at least one lipid and preferably also at least one emulsifier, is provided for topical application to the body, wherein the lipid is a solid lipid, selected from the group consisting of: higher saturated alcohols; sphingolipids; synthetic esters; higher fatty acids of 12-30 carbon atoms and mono-, di- and triglycerides of higher saturated fatty acids having 10 - 30 carbon atoms. Optionally the suspension of solid lipoid nanoparticles contains a drug. A manufacturing method for the said aqueous suspension of solid lipoid nanoparticles is also provided.
