Inflammation is treated by administration in a multiple dose regimen of a non-steroidal systemic anti-inflammatory agent concomitantly with a nontoxic metal base or basic salt. The metal base or basic salt can be a hydroxide, sulfate, carbonate, bicarbonate, subcarbonate, or trisilicate. The metal can be aluminum, sodium, magnesium, potassium, or bismuth. Aluminum hydroxide is preferred.
