A process for the production of a lipid containing eicosapentaenoic acid comprising the steps of preparing algae belonging to the genus Corallina and containing eicosapentaenoic acid, and obtaining a lipid containing eicosapentaenoic acid from the algae; a process for the production of eicosapentaenoic acid wherein the eicosapentaenoic acid is isolated from the above-­mentioned lipid; a process for the production of a lipid containing eicosapentaenoic acid comprising the steps of preparing algae belonging to the genus Corallina and capable of synthesizing eicosapentaenoic acid, preparing a product containing enzymes for synthesizing eicosa­pentaenoic acid from the algae, converting a precursor for eicosapentaenoic acid to eicosapentaenoic acid in the presence of the product containing enzymes for synthesizing eicosapentaenoic acid, and obtaining a lipid containing eicosapentaenoic acid; and a process for the production of eicosapentaenoic acid from the above-mentioned enzyme reaction.
