Acylanilides of the ormula wherein R 1 and R 2 , the same or different, each is cyano, carbamoyl, nitro, halogeno, perfluoroalkyl or other defined substituents; R 3 is hydrogen or halogen; R 4 is hydrogen or alkyl, or is joined to R 5 ; R 5 is hydrogen, hydroxy, alkoxy or acyloxy or is joined I to R 4 ; R 6 is alkyl or halogenoalkyl, or has the formula -A 3 -R 8 or-A 4 -X 2 -A 5 -R 9 ; A 1 and A 4 , the same or different, each is alkylene; A 2 , A3 and A 5 , the same or different, each is a direct link or alkylene; X 1 and X 2 , the same or different, each is oxygen, sulphur, sulphinyl, sulphonyl, imino or alkylimino; R 7 and R 9 , the same or different, each is alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl optionally substituted, naphthyl or heterocyclic optionally substituted; and R 8 is phenyl, naphthyl or heterocyclic as defined above for R 7 or R 9 ; processes for their manufacture and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The acylanilides possess antiandrogenic activity.
