USPTO Abstract

An apparatus includes a housing defining a gas chamber, a medicament container disposed therein, and a needle coupled to the medicament container. The needle is moveable between a first position, in which the needle is disposed within the housing, and a second position in which a portion extends from the housing. A retraction spring biases the needle towards the first position. An expandable assembly includes a flexible member to transition between collapsed and expanded configurations, and distal member. An energy storage member produces a pressurized gas within the gas chamber to move the needle from the first to the second position and to move the distal member within the medicament container to convey a medicament from the medicament container via the needle. The flexible member actuates a valve to release the pressurized gas from the gas chamber when the flexible member is transitioned from the collapsed to the expanded configuration.
