Disclosed is a topical composition comprising 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) to be applied on a tissue as a treatment area for photodynamic therapy, wherein the treatment area is covered with a low density polyethylene barrier within a predetermined time period from the application of the topical composition prior to light treatment, and the light treatment is carried out on the treatment area after the low density polyethylene barrier is removed.
